Task 1

Let's discuss!


What is the word “musician” associated with?
What outstanding musicians can you name?
Where are they from?
What are they famous for?
What musical pieces does their prolific heritage include?


Task 2

Watch the video about Top 10 Most Influential British musicians and answer the following questions:

Do you like listening to music?
What are your favorite music styles?
Have you heard the songs of any of these musicians?If so, whose music do you like most of all? Why?



Task 3

Read and translate the text (James Driscoll “Britain for learners of English”, p. 203)

Task 4

After reading the text, decide whether these sentences are True or False



1. A great amount of people in Great Britain listen to classical music
2.  Some of the British orchestras are world-wide popular
3.  The Beatles were one of those musicians that showed something brand new to the world.
4. Pop music in Britain has always been a major industry
   5. ‘Punk’ is one of the trends that is thought to be British. 

Task 5

Watch the interview with Paul McCartney and answer the following questions:



Who broke up the Beatles?
Try to explain how it happened according to Paul McCartney’s version.
How does McCartney describe Yoko Ono? How did he treat her?
   What does Paul McCartney mean by saying that the process of writing songs was for “weaponizing each other”?



Task 6

Listen to the song "Let it be" by the Beatles and express your opinion on the song's meaning. Listen to the opinions of your classmates. Exchange points of view. Discuss.



Task 7

Divide into 2 groups. Read the following quotation by H. Longfellow and try to explain it, giving as many examples as possible. Share your ideas with another group. Discuss.
